Arts Edge specialise in the documentation and reproduction of fine art. The studio uses only the best and most current camera and lighting gear. Arts Edge maintains a close working relationship with Dr Les Walking* in order to maintain the highest possible standards. Les Walking is one of the most prominent figures in the art reproduction industry knowledge base in Australia.
Our Joondalup studio can accommodate many oversized works with pickup and dropoff service if required in a dedicated air conditioned art transport vehicle. Our mission is to assist emerging and established artists, galleries, and museums to realize their vision.
High Resolution Photography
To capture the finest details and most delicate colours, a high resolution and dynamic range camera system is required. Our camera system for reprographic work is modular to fit into a range of capturing configurations and our Weapon of Choice is the Hasselblad H5D-50 Medium Format.
Digitization of art or even delicate items requires a specialist touch
Uniform lighting will typically be the choice of operation, and will often be the same throughout when working with non-reflective material. In situations with a mixture of non reflective and reflective materials, the photographer may have to adjust the lighting, which will be possible using rapid capture solutions using external light sources. Resin coated art, objects and artwork with protrusions require other specialist techniques and camera and lighting equipment. This fact will often be the limiting factor for the capture speed of the material. On regular reprographic copy stands, the operator has to check and adjust focus as he progresses through the process or art capture, which slows down the procedure.
Art Reproduction by Arts Edge
Photographing artwork professionally takes a considerable amount of setup up time. We have gone to a lot of effort to make our set up minimal, which in turn reduces reproduction costs. We have designed and built three capture systems in order to reduce set up times. The rst involves shooting artwork under 80cm; the second involves artwork from 80cm to 60” or 150cm; and thirdly we have a multiple capture solution. However, with scene calibration, camera focus and lighting requires further set up times. Consideration also must be given to post production and le presentation before the capture image goes to print.
The minimum cost for this unique service we provide is value for money. No one else in WA can offer the quality of reproduction we are offering, which is to museum standards. Our Hasselblad system paired with our studio lighting set up, training and experience, is not only second to none. It is the best available.
